Exploring a Unusual Steam Game Trial: Guiding a Piece of Feces with the Goal to Arrive at the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and enthusiasts have encountered plenty of engaging indie games. But, one is particularly notable for its quirky concept. Titled Unko Technica, this old-school styled platformer lets you play a protagonist that is literally a turd trying to make its way to a toilet. In case you're wondering, "Unko" translates to "poop."

How you interact is simple: you only need a one button to leap. Throughout 150 challenges, encounter mini-bosses and unlock a shop to buy outfits for your dung hero.

Execute your jumps with caution, as a error requires starting over. Jump using air pockets to launch the poop higher, navigate crumbling ledges, and touch buttons to open hidden paths. Earn coins and use them on challenging levels where the action ramps up.

Visually, the demo features neon environments and catchy background music. The retro art of shifting basic polygons could recall gamers of classic titles like Earthbound.

While it's difficult to name previous releases where you play as a dung character, gaming often featured fecal matter. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, players create throwables from character excrement. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ feces as fertilizer. Unsurprisingly, this theme shows up extensively in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.

Despite its silly concept, Unko Technica has already received significant accolades, including being named best at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. The demo is accessible currently on Steam, with the final release planned to debut on Steam in the fall.
