Keely Hodgkinson Concludes Campaign with Victorious Display at Athlos in New York
The athlete achieved her fastest time of one minute 54.61 seconds last year in the British capital.
The Olympic champion concluded her two-lap campaign with a win at the all-female Athlos meet in NYC on Friday night.
{The reigning Olympic gold medallist, who earned third place at the World Championships last month, excelled in an outstanding win in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was just her sixth appearance in a year impacted by a hamstring injury.
Fellow Briton and global silver winner Georgia Bell took the runner-up spot again in one minute 58.33 seconds, while St Vincent's Shafiqua Maloney (one minute 58.57) claimed third.
"I've barely raced this season so it was likely easier for me to compete and want to give it something," stated Hodgkinson.
"The environment at the event is incredible so it was extremely enjoyable."
The female-exclusive event packed Icahn Stadium in its second year, bringing a party atmosphere to traditional track, with live music and special crowns replacing traditional winners' medals.
The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena Williams, who is wed to the founder of Athlos Alexis Ohanian, was present to award the victors with their tiaras.
Previous champions received sixty thousand dollars (forty-four thousand six hundred and three pounds) - one of the largest prize purses in athletics.
The event also drew some of the sport's biggest names, as Kenya's three-time Olympic gold medallist and world record holder Faith K. triumphed in the mile race, finishing in four hours 17.78 minutes.
American Brittany B., the 200m bronze medallist from last year's Paris Olympics, won the 100m and 200m double.
