President Trump Greeted by the Japanese Emperor Prior to Meeting Japan's New Leader

Former President Donald Trump obtained a regal welcome on Monday in Japan, the next stop of a five-day Asia trip which he hopes to finish with an agreement on a trade war truce with Chinese president Xi Jinping.

Donald Trump, embarking on his longest journey abroad since beginning his term in January, revealed arrangements with multiple Asian nations during the opening phase in the Malaysian nation and is expected to have talks with Xi in South Korea on later this week.

President Trump exchanged greetings with officials on the landing strip and gave a few fist pumps, before his chopper carried him away for a scenic night tour of Tokyo. His motorcade was afterwards spotted arriving at the emperor's residence, where he met Japanese sovereign Naruhito.

Financial Deals

The former president has secured a $550-billion investment pledge from Tokyo in exchange for a break from heavy trade duties.

The country's freshly installed prime minister, Sanae Takaichi, is aiming to additionally wow Trump with assurances to buy US utility vehicles, legumes and natural gas, and reveal an agreement on maritime construction.

The prime minister, who assumed the role of Japan's initial woman prime minister last week, told Trump that strengthening their countries' alliance was her "top priority" in a phone conversation on Saturday.
